In the misted hills of Chikmagalur, where silver oaks shimmer under monsoon skies, Ratnagiri Estate rises quietly like a mountain of pearls — its name literally meaning “Pearl Mountain.” Established by the Patre family in 1927 and now guided by Ashok Patre, the estate stands as one of India’s most visionary coffee farms. Here, tradition and science coexist: old shade trees shelter the land while new ideas shape the future of Indian coffee.
Each harvest is treated like a study in precision. Cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, then moved into temperature-controlled fermenters where Ashok’s experimental approach takes form — anaerobic, honey, and natural processes crafted with scientific care. The estate’s altitude of 1,350 MASL and rich biodiversity lend a natural sweetness and floral depth that echo the forest around it. Ratnagiri’s coffees are not just grown; they are composed, layer by layer, like a work of art in fermentation.
