Established in 1947 by Late Mr. Ligory Menezes, a cloth merchant turned planter, the estate remains a living bridge between enterprise and earth.

Its name, drawn from the Kannada word Hebbagillu — meaning “great gateway” — recalls an era when travelers passed through these slopes toward Hegguddlu, long before roads carved their way through the hills. What began as a merchant’s retreat has matured into a testament of stewardship and familial devotion, nurtured across generations at elevations of 1,280–1,400 m above sea level.

One of Karnataka’s oldest and most respected coffee farms, Baarbara Estate is nestled in the cool, mist-laced hills of Chikmagalur. Run by the third and fourth generation of dedicated planters, the estate lies at elevations nearing 4,000 feet and is known for its meticulous cultivation of Arabica under dense native shade. With a legacy of quality and care, Baarbara produces clean, well-structured coffees that reflect the quiet strength of the land they grow in.

Tucked into the gentle, dove-like slopes of the Shevaroy Hills, Stanmore Estate is a jewel in the MSP family’s five-generation legacy. With elevations rising to 4,300 feet, the estate nurtures Arabica varietals like Hawaii Red Caturra, Catimor, and SLN09 under the shade of fig, jackfruit, jamun, and native Shola trees. Certified by UTZ and Rainforest Alliance, Stanmore’s coffees offer clarity, structure, and a quiet elegance shaped by rain, soil, and tradition.

High in the Biligirirangan Hills, where the "white mist" clings to the peaks, lies Attikan Estate—derived from "Atti" (Fig) and "Kan" (Forest)—a historic wilderness of incredible biodiversity. Founded in 1888 by Randolf Morris and now nurtured by the Appadurai family of Sangameshwar Estates, this farm stands as a testament to shade-grown mastery. Surrounded by a protected tiger reserve, the estate is a haven where elephants and leopards roam freely. Here, the cool air and dense canopy allow the coffee to ripen slowly, absorbing the wild essence of the forest and the heritage of over a century.

High in the mist-laden peaks of the Baba Budan Giri range, where the Western Ghats cradle the clouds, lies Udayagiri Estate. Stewarded by the Kalasaiah family for generations and now led by the visionary Pratheek, this farm is a masterclass in biodiversity and precision. The coffee thrives under a lush, three-tiered canopy of Jackfruit, Silver Oak, and wild Fig trees, creating a vibrant corridor for migrating birds and wildlife. Here, nutrient-rich soil and cool mountain air slow the maturation of the cherries, locking in deep fruit notes and a structured sweetness that defines the region’s finest terroir.
